The Institute Librarian, Prof. Cyprian Ugwu, has excelled at a recently concluded capacity building in higher education sponsored by the National Universities Commission and the National Open University of Nigeria. The librarian has also formally presented the Certificate of Participation to the Executive Director, Prof. Obiajulu Emejulu, in his office.
The training was a six – week intensive training by the Virtual Institute for Capacity Building in Higher Education (VICBHE), a virtual training on the theory, practice and future of academic planning in Nigerian universities. It took place from 31 January through 15 March, 2022, and was fully sponsored by the NUC and NOUN.
Receiving the certificate from Prof. Ugwu, the Executive Director, expressed elation and joy at the participation of the Institute in the training and in the excellent performance of the Institute’s representative, who passed the examination at Distinction grade.
Prof. Emejulu expressed the hope that the participation and Prof. Ugwu’s performance would bring the Institute further to limelight, and that the librarian would achieve more breakthroughs for the Institute.
The training was an international programme. About 635 candidates from 12 African countries expressed interest in the course; but 479 were eventually registered. Out of this number, 465 completed the hectic course, which featured lectures, tests, excursion fora, practical and examination.
COUNCIL APPOINTS 3 FULL PROFESSORS, OTHERS
The Institute’s fifth Governing Council has just elevated three academic staff of the Institute to the rank of full Professors. The benefiting staff are Professor Cyprian Ugwu; Professor Ngozi Ijioma, and Professor Chidimma Okeogu. They were all on the rank of Reader before the promotion. The promotion was approved by Council at its recent 27th Regular Meeting held at Aba.
This batch is the second group of full professors to be appointed by NINLAN Council. The first and, before the latest, the only other person appointed professor was Lucy U.N. Izuwah (now late), who was appointed full Professor by the second Governing Council in October 2006.
At the recent meeting, Council also promoted two academics to Senior Lecturer positions; two Deputy Registrars to the rank of Snr. Deputy Registrar, two PARs to Deputy Registrar level. Promotions were also approved fort three Lecturer 1 positions, one PAR and many other lower -rank positions in both academic and Non- teaching sectors.
The Chairman of the Institute’s Governing Council, Prof. Francis Egbokhare, also inaugurated three new non – statutory Standing Committees of Council. These are Staff and Students Disciplinary Committee; Security Committee and Endowment Committee.
