“We asked for something; but they gave us much more than we asked, far beyond our expectation”. That was how the Principal of the NINLAN Demonstration Secondary School, Mr. Chukwudi Adibe, expressed the impression of his staff and students about the brand-new block of five classrooms, offices and conveniences created from former Eze Ananaba Hostel and handed over to the NDSS by the Administration of Professor Obiajulu Emejulu, on 2 February, 2022.
The NINLAN staff school has been growing in population in recent years, in so much that some students were learning under a leaking roof. The Chairman of the School’s Management Board, Dr. Joy Chikezie, and her team wondered how to deal with this and came to a decision that one of the hostels located near the multi-storey classroom block could be rebuilt and converted to classroom blocks, especially given the fact that boarding students were not increasing so much. The Chairman took the idea to the Executive Director who also saw the plight of the students and therefore readily approved that the Ananaba House be reconstructed, reshaped, reroofed and converted to a classroom block.
Prof. Emejulu directed the works department to effect the transformation on the building immediately and complete the project fast so that students would move into the block from the second term.
The works team worked hard and in less than three months transformed the erstwhile hostel block to a modern classroom block.
An a brief ceremony on 2 February 2022, Prof. Emejulu inaugurated the new block and handed it over to Chairman Chikezie for the school’s use as classrooms.
Dr. Chikezie was full of gratitude to the Executive Director for his empathy for the students which moved him to give the directive on the project, culminating in the existence of modern classroom blocks for the students. She described the resultant edifice as “a marvellous thing that came through the proactiveness of the Executive Director”.
The NDSS Board Chairman also commended the Director of Works, Arch. Emeka Izuwah, and his team for the great attention and devotion they gave to the project which made them keep working even during the Christmas break.
Arch. Izuwah thanked the ED for the confidence he reposed on him and his staff by giving them the assignment and for readily funding it.
