Prof. Stephen Akpan Umo Ituen
Professor Stephen Akpan Umo ITUEN is the Dean of the School of Education and Ancillary Studies. His qualification and dates are specified as follows: Ph.D Degree, University of Toronto, Canada 1980; Masters of Arts Degree, University of Toronto, 1973; B.A (Hons) French, Second Class Upper, University of Lagos, 1970; DiplÃ´me SupÃ©rieur Dâ€™Etudes Francaises Ã Lâ€™ Etranger, Nice, France 1969; G.C.E (Advanced Level) 1964; West African School Certificate, Division II 1960.
His area of specialization is Language Education with research interest as promoting reading culture among Second Language Learners, tackling indigenous decline and death and promoting the reading of French as Second Language in Nigeria. He teaches courses at undergraduate, masters and Ph.D levels.
He has authored such books as Elements of Teaching; Introduction to Curriculum Studies; Teaching Secondary Level English; Childrenâ€™s Literature; Reading,Writing and Analysis of Short Stories and Lâ€™ Enseigemant du FranÃ§ais langue Ã‰trangÃ¨re.
He has published extensively in national and international journals and is external examiner to a number of universities.
He is a member of the following professional bodies: Curriculum Association of Nigeria, Reading Association of Nigeria and Nigerian University French Teachers Association.
